For students not enrolled in our full day program, we offer in-person after school tutoring.
Slots are extremely limited and priority is given to families currently enrolled in our full-day program.
These sessions are appropriate for students having any of three common learning differences: a deficit in Phonemic Awareness, Dyslexia, and/or Dyscalculia. These learning differences commonly occur together. All can be corrected with regular tutoring using research-based, simultaneous, multi-sensory methods. We feature the Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing Program (LiPS), the Barton Reading and Spelling System, and Dyscalculia curriculum by Emerson.
- Dyslexia is a learning difference characterized by difficulty learning to read and spell. It is not indicative of intellectual deficits.
- Phonemic Awareness is the ability to hear, identify, and manipulate individual sounds in spoken words. Dyslexic students who lack phonemic awareness cannot learn how to read and spell.
- Dyscalculia is a learning difference characterized by a difficulty with math and understanding how numbers work together.
I’ve Tried Tutoring, But It Didn’t Work
These three learning differences all require specialized, highly-targeted techniques. Most tutoring centers do not have the trained staff to successfully remediate these learning differences, and in fact many do more harm than good as a result.
How Do I Know If My Child Has These Learning Differences?
Dyslexia, a lack of phonemic awareness, and dyscalculia can all be accurately identified as early as kindergarten. Before a student is accepted into the tutoring program, they must have specific academic testing by a trained professional. See Screenings and Consultations for more information.
